Frequently Asked questions and knowledge
-
What is hypnotherapy and how does it work?
Hypnotherapy is a natural, therapeutic process that uses the state of hypnosis- a deeply relaxed yet aware condition, to help you access your subconscious mind and facilitate positive change. At Megan Morris Hypnotherapy we use clinical hypnotherapy and life-coaching techniques to help you resolve root causes (rather than just symptoms) and move forward with confidence.
-
Will I lose control or fall asleep during a hypnotherapy session?
No. During a session you remain fully conscious and in control. Hypnosis is not the same as being asleep or unconscious; it’s more like a focused and relaxed state where your mind is open to new suggestions and ideas. At our sessions you’ll always be aware of what’s happening and will never be asked to do anything against your will.
-
What kinds of issues or conditions can hypnotherapy help with?
Hypnotherapy can assist a wide range of challenges including anxiety, depression, PTSD, trauma, chronic pain, quitting smoking or vaping, gut-health issues, weight loss, inner-child healing, ancestral healing and life-coaching. Megan works with you to tailor the session to your specific concerns.
-
Do I have to believe in hypnosis for it to work?
No - while being open and willing helps, you don’t have to “believe” in hypnosis in the mystical sense for it to be effective. What matters more is your readiness to change and your engagement in the process. At Megan’s practice you’ll be guided step-by-step so you feel comfortable and clear about what is happening.
-
Can anyone be hypnotised?
Yes, almost everyone can enter a hypnotic state if they are open to it and willing to engage in the process. The depth of the trance may vary between individuals, but you don’t need to go extremely deep for hypnotherapy to be effective. At Megan’s practice we guide you gently and safely through the process.
-
How many sessions will I need and how long will they take?
The number of sessions depends on your individual goals, the complexity of your issue and your responsiveness to the work. Some clients notice improvements after just one session, while others may need multiple sessions. The exact time and plan will be discussed during your first consultation.
-
Is hypnotherapy safe? Are there risks or side-effects?
Yes, when conducted by a trained, registered clinical hypnotherapist hypnotherapy is considered safe. Side-effects are uncommon but may include feeling slightly “out of it” for a short time after the session as the old patterns are alleviated. Megan ensures a safe, supportive environment.
-
What makes Megan Morris Hypnotherapy different from other hypnotherapists?
Her mission is to help you unlock your inner potential, release unresolved emotions and patterns, and move you from being stuck to gaining clarity and emotional freedom. She works on root cause rather than just managing symptoms, and provides a supportive environment.
-
What should I expect in my first session?
In your first session we’ll have a detailed discussion about what you’d like to work on, your history and any preferences or concerns you have. Then you’ll be guided into a relaxed state and the session will include therapeutic suggestions, possible visualisations or techniques to address your issue.
-
Do you offer online sessions or only in-person?
Yes, both options are available. Megan offers in-clinic hypnotherapy in Ballarat (Alfredton) as well as online sessions via Zoom, so you can access the service from anywhere in Australia or internationally.
-
Will health insurance or medicare cover hypnotherapy?
Coverage depends on your private health fund and your level of cover. Some funds may rebate hypnotherapy services under “Extras” cover. It’s best to check with your insurer.
